HCTC Starts Campaign To Spread The Cost Of The Olympics Across The UK19 Sept 2005 We are extending our activities to enter the debate on the cost to Londoners, via the GLA Precept, of the 2012 Olympics. We are running a poll asking Harrow residents whether they agree with only Greater London council taxpayers’ money being spent, via an increase in the GLA Precept, for the next 20 years. It is our intention to inform other London Boroughs and local media, so that they can join us in our appeal to spread the costs. The Harrow Times is already carrying the campaign slips and we hope that other media sympathetic to London council taxpayers’ pockets will follow suit. Our contention is that both the Olympics and its security policing are matters for the whole country, not just GL dwellers. We object to neither - but we DO object to Greater London carrying all rather than part of the cost. The new campaign has started with posters and petition sheets in local shops. A public meeting is being held on Friday 23 September at 7:30pm, with Bob Blackman – the GLA member for Brent and Harrow – as guest speaker. |
