Council Meeting Report

16th December 2003

There was a council meeting at the Civic Centre on Tuesday 16th December, during which the proposed tax rise was discussed. A sizable contingent from HCTC was present, but the Labour cabinet again refused to hear their prepared statement.

Protestors were allowed to ask some pre-submitted questions, but meaningful answers were not forthcoming. Low figures for proposed rises have been planted with the press, but when it came to saying anything on the record they became very coy.

There is no way the Council Cabinet can pretend they weren't expecting us - they allocated more space for the meeting, issued tickets and the gates of the Civic Centre staff car park were left open in anticipation of the large number of protestors expected.
